Trump’s Deportation Regime Could Soon Target U.S. Citizens Too

They Came for Kilmar. Who’s Next—You? Me? Our Neighbors?

By now, some of you may have heard the name Kilmar Abrego Garcia. But if you haven’t, please stop and read this—because what happened to him should terrify every single person living in Comal County, and across this country.

Kilmar isn’t a criminal. He isn’t a terrorist. He’s a father of three, a long-time Maryland resident, and someone who has lived peacefully in the United States for over a decade. On March 12, in front of his 5-year-old autistic child, Kilmar was violently arrested by U.S. immigration officers without a warrant. No trial. No charges. No legal explanation. Just taken.

And within three days, he was gone.

Vanished. Disappeared. Deported to a torture prison in El Salvador.

Not a jail. A torture prison. The place is called CECOT (Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo), and it’s known worldwide for shaving inmates’ heads, denying them food, blocking access to lawyers and families, and—yes—torturing them. No exaggeration. No conspiracy theory. Human rights groups have confirmed it.

And Kilmar was sent there… after a U.S. court explicitly forbade his deportation.

Why? Because Trump said so.

In 2019, Kilmar won legal protection from deportation due to threats he faced in El Salvador. His removal was not just illegal—it was unconstitutional. But the federal agents who detained him lied. They claimed—falsely—that his legal protections had been revoked.

Even the Trump administration later admitted it was an “administrative error.”

Yet Kilmar remains in a Salvadoran prison.

The Supreme Court said bring him back. Trump said no.

On April 10, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the lower court’s ruling: Kilmar must be returned home.

Let that sink in. The highest court in the country gave a direct order—and the Trump administration refused.

Instead, Trump’s team changed their story again. They stopped calling it an error. They now claim Kilmar is a threat and that the administration has the authority to disappear him, without trial, without evidence, and without due process.

They even lied and said the Supreme Court ruled in their favor—when in fact, it ruled against them unanimously.

This is not just about immigrants anymore. Trump wants to do this to U.S. citizens.

Right now, Kilmar is still locked away in CECOT. And President Trump is already laying the groundwork to expand this program. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, a self-proclaimed dictator and Trump ally, is preparing to expand CECOT to accept even more detainees—including American citizens.

Yes, you read that right.

Trump has openly suggested deporting U.S. citizens.

He’s already signed an executive order declaring a national emergency at the southern border. That order allows his administration to recommend invoking the Insurrection Act, giving him the power to deploy military force inside the United States. A report recommending next steps is due April 20.

If Trump gets away with disappearing Kilmar—despite the courts, the law, and the Constitution—what’s to stop him from doing it to protestors? To journalists? To you?

This Is Bigger Than Kilmar—But It Starts With Him.

Let me be clear: this isn’t just a political issue. This is a human issue. It’s about power unchecked. It’s about a president using foreign prisons as holding pens for people he doesn’t like, where no court can intervene and no lawyer can help.

If you’re sitting in New Braunfels, in Garden Ridge, in Bulverde, or anywhere else in Comal County, I want you to think about how close to home this could hit. Because once this kind of system exists, it’s not long before they come knocking on your door.

What Can We Do?

We are not powerless. We are not voiceless. But we must act. Now.

  1. Contact Your Elected Officials
Demand that they speak out—loudly—against what’s happening. Tell them to support Kilmar’s return and condemn the administration’s illegal actions.

  2. Share Kilmar’s Story
Talk about it. Post it. Email it. Don’t let this be swept under the rug. If we stay silent, they will take our silence as permission.

  3. Join Protests and Organize Locally
Calling Congress is important—but we know it’s not enough. Public pressure matters. Show up. Speak up. Demand justice.

The Bottom Line

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a test case. If Trump can get away with abducting and disappearing one man, he’ll do it again. And again. And again.

We must draw the line here. Before it’s drawn around us.
